In the “Comics” section of this website, you will find a variety of comics, each providing an illustration of a particular category of mental illness. The comics were designed specifically to try to capture the main elements of each illness in a way that younger children will be able to process. Accompanying each comic, you will find two written descriptions of each particular illness-- one providing an overview in bullet-point format (appropriate for some older children), and one providing more extensive detail in paragraph form (appropriate for some teens and adults). By design, our comics and associated texts do not discuss 100% of the diagnostic criteria for each illness. Our goal is to increase understanding of the essential features of different mental illnesses without including so much detail as to be overwhelming, particularly given that most of our content is geared towards children. For those who are interested in reading full criteria, we encourage you to do so and have added references to outside resources that contain this information.
