Laura Powers, M.D.

Laura Powers is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in New York City. She received her M.D. from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, where she also completed residency and fellowship. She is currently pursuing psychoanalytic training through the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Before becoming a Doctor, Laura received her Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.

Billy Powers

Billy Powers is currently pursuing his PhD in Education Policy at Teachers College, Columbia University. He specializes in Early Childhood policy. Prior to Columbia, Billy taught preschool in a Head Start in Chicago. He then received his Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Billy and Laura’s father passed away in late 2018, after a long battle with bipolar disorder. Billy’s childhood was profoundly affected by his father’s mental illness. He hopes that these resources can help catalyze important discussions between parents/caregivers and their children about mental illness.

K. Woodman-Maynard

K. Woodman-Maynard is a graphic novelist and graphic designer who specializes in using a combination of digital and traditional mediums. She studied animation at Harvard University and worked as an animator in San Francisco before moving into comics and design. Her debut book, a graphic novel adaptation of The Great Gatsby, was published by Candlewick Press in 2021. She lives in Minnesota with her husband and very vocal cat.

K. Woodman-Maynard is especially excited to collaborate with Talk To Kids since she grew up confused by the mental illness of loved ones and her own anxiety and depression. She loves being able to use comics to help kids and families have conversations about mental health. Follow her @WoodmanMaynard
